1. How and when do I check in?

Tickets
To check in, all you have to do is insert your ticket into the machine and then walk through the gate with your baggage. It is a very simple process however if you do find you need help, Eurostar staff are always around, and will be happy to check you in themselves. You will be expected to present your passport and a filled out landing card at border control.

When To Check In
This depends mainly on what ticket you have. Unless you’ve been advised otherwise, please check-in at least 30 minutes before your scheduled departure. Below are the full details, just bear in mind that if in doubt, arrive with time to spare. Enjoy the station facilities whilst you wait.

10 minutes Holders of Business Premier tickets and Eurostar carte blanche
1 hour Standard and Standard Premier tickets only
1 hour If you have special travel needs (e.g. you’re a wheelchair user) or will need help getting to the train. Please approach a member of staff for assistance.
1 hour All travellers for ski services.

For Marseille/Avignon - London, Check-in, security and immigration checks are done later in the journey at the Eurostar hub station in Lille.

2. How much luggage can I take?

When you travel with Eurostar, you don’t need to check your baggage in - just take it straight onto the train.

  • Adults: up to 2 pieces of luggage (up to 85cm long) and 1 piece of hand luggage
  • Children: up to 1 piece of luggage (up to 85cm long) and 1 piece of hand luggage

This does not include large items (for example trunks, bicycles etc). Luggage must be placed in the luggage racks provided in between the carriages. Hand luggage can be placed in the racks above the seats. Although there is no weight limit, travellers must be able to lift their luggage by themselves into the trains and the luggage racks. Any luggage over the limit will be counted as excess luggage and a fee will be charged.

Registered Baggage service
If you are travelling with additional items of baggage as well as large or bulky items such as trunks, bicycles etc or sporting and collectors’ weapons or knives, it is necessary to register these items. You can do this at London St Pancras International, Paris Gare du Nord, Brussels Midi/Zuid or Lille Europe.

This service applies only between London – Paris, London – Brussels and London – Lille in both directions and applies to no other Eurostar destination or beyond those stations listed above.

Your baggage will be forwarded on the next available departure, space permitting. However, Eurostars' guarantee is that your baggage will be available to collect at your Eurostar destination station within 24 hours after registration.

This service also allows you to send your baggage in advance of your journey and then it will be ready to collect when you arrive at your Eurostar destination. However, you may still register your baggage shortly before your departure but please note there is a 30 minute check-in requirement prior to departure.

The following items are prohibited:

  • Unlicensed firearms (including replicas and de-activated firearms)

Refuse to allow (or to refuse to continue to allow) access to our services if a passenger's physical or mental state is affected by alcohol or drugs.

3. Can I take my bicycle?

Yes, please take it along if you wish! Keep your carbon emissions to a minimum when you arrive in Europe after travelling with Eurostar and stay fit at the same time!

Here are a few tips:

If you can fold or dismantle your bike and place it in a bike bag with the saddle, handlebars and wheels removed, you can carry it on board yourself as part of your luggage allowance as long as the overall size is no bigger than a normal suitcase.

Alternatively, use Eurostar’s registered baggage service. The service operates between London, Paris, Brussels and Lille Eurostar terminals. Eurostar will do their utmost to send your bike on the next available service, space permitting. However, their guarantee is that your bike will be available to collect at your Eurostar destination station within 24 hours after registration.

This service also allows you to send your bike in advance of your journey and then it’ll be ready to collect when you arrive. If not, you can still turn up on the day.

Charges are €25 and it’s necessary to show your Eurostar ticket or booking reference when you register.

4. Is there Wi-Fi?

Wireless internet access is offered at all of the terminals so you can plug in and access the internet whenever you need to.

5. Can I smoke onboard?

No, the Eurostar is non-smoking.
