Updates on Japan's rail network

Train Services in the Tohoku Region:

Some railway tracks and stations in parts of the Tohoku and Kanto regions were damaged by the earthquake and tsunami. However, the restoration work has been progressing day by day and the disrupted sections of the Tohoku Shinkansen will be restored and services are expected to resume by the end of April. As expressways have already been restored, major cities in the Tohoku region, which are still inaccessible by train can be reached by bus.

Shinkansen:

The Tohoku Shinkansen has been suspended between Fukushima and Shin-Aomori. Other services on the line are operating as normal. The full line is expected to be operational by the end of April or early May.

Yamagata Shinkansen (Fukushima-Shinjo) and Akita Shinkansen (Morioka-Akita) are operating as usual.

Other Major Lines in the Tohoku region:

All lines are in service except for some sections of the Tohoku Honsen Line.
